Common Questions & Swaps

  • I don’t like coffee; can I only stick to hot water in this recipe? I would not use plain ol’ hot water here or you will end up with a very bland watery drink. Instead, maybe opt for a grain based coffee alternative. I like barley coffee, which is also decaffeinated so you can enjoy it at any time of the day.
  • Can I use cashew, coconut or any other nut butter for this recipe? I would advise you sticking to almond, cashew or coconut butter (I have a recipe for homemade coconut butter here) as these three nut butters are very neutral in flavour. Peanut butter, walnut, sunflower seed or pumpkin seed butter would all be too over powering in this case.

  • Can I sweeten this recipe with maple syrup? Yes. I am not sure how much you would need though, but start with 1 teaspoon of maple syrup, taste and add more if desired.

Ok, so this drink is what your morning dreams are made of.

Am I the only one who, every night, looks forward to waking up the next day to enjoy a big cup of hot coffee?

There is something so satisfying about the whole ritual of boiling your water, brewing your coffee, frothing some milk, mixing both together and taking that very first sip of coffee of the day. Just thinking about it makes me look forward to waking up tomorrow LOL!

Even if I was not dependent on coffee (yes – I sadly have major migraines if I don’t have coffee in the morning), I would still drink this delicious beverage on the regular as it brings me SO MUCH JOY!

Generally speaking, I drink my coffee with frothed unsweetened soy milk. I am not one to sweeten my morning drink or to make it very rich with any kind of vegan creamer. However, from time to time, I like to take that extra little 5 minutes to pimp up my coffee a bit. That is exactly what I did here…

This latte, contrary to the kind you would generally buy at a café does not even require milk.

You read me right! The almond butter, once blended with hot coffee, will froth and basically replace your milk. I know, it’s kind of magical and maybe might sound unbelievable but it is TRUE!

On top of being milk-free, this latte is also lightly spiced with some of my favorite warm spices: cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg. Hence, if you are in a cozy, fall or even holiday mood, this will definitely hit the right cords! This drink is also lightly sweetened with dates, making it extra special… like if you were having one of those specialty drinks at Starbucks.
