Spicy, tangy and lightly salted, these whole wheat chili and lime pita chips make a wonderful snack and can easily become your favorite paring to any dip.

  • 2 whole wheat pita breads , each cut in 8 triangles
  • 3 tbsp lime juice
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil (avocado, canola, sunflower...)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp sea salt

  • ¼ tsp sweet paprika
  • ¼ tsp chipotle powder
  • Zest of 1 lime

  2. Step 2

Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl (except the pita triangles of course).

Common Questions & Swaps

If you are gluten-free, feel free to swap the whole wheat pita with gluten-free pita or even corn based tortillas (like the ones for tacos).

If you have been following me on social media, you might have seen these chips before. I posted them on Instagram at the beginning of the month for a challenge I was taking part of, where I had to create a moody image (see the image below).

Life got in the way and it just took me longer than I had initially expected to get this blogpost out. But here it is now!

What inspired me to create this recipe are the Trader Joe’s Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips, chili and lime flavour.

I had these guys when Sam and I were in California at the beginning of the year (wow… looking back at that trip, I find it crazy how much times have changed!). When I first tasted these chips, sitting on a rock in Joshua Tree National Park, I fell in love. They were what I call truly magnificent chips. They were so sour and so flavorful my taste buds felt like they were in overwork mode! Anyways, I really fell in love with those and you can see my first reaction to them in the video I posted on my YouTube Channel called, Trying Vegan American Snacks | Exploring California.

Anyways, after coming back home to Montreal, these chips had been on my mind for a little while, but sadly could not have access to them anymore…

One day, when I was brainstorming what to shoot, I simultaneously got a craving for the TJ’s Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips, so you I reached back to my childhood memories of making chips out of pita bread and got to work, recreating a similar flavour profile.

To arrive to a final result I was happy with, I used a combination of spices and flavours that reminded me of the original TJ chips. I put together lime juice, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, chili flakes, paprika and chipotle powder. Whisked them all up with some neutral oil, brushed it on pre-cut pita chips and baked them for 6 minutes and TA-DA: favour packed Whole Wheat Chili and Lime Pita chips!

Another thing, this recipe is one of those recipes that you can truly modify to your liking. Honestly, if there are certain spices you don’t have on hand, just swap them out with something similar or just a completely different spice. Make new combinations and have fun with it! This spicy mix is just one that I love and was craving the day I created this recipe; it is by no means the very best out there.

I am a real fan of this one and if you love the chili and lime combination, then I have a good feeling you will love this recipe as well!
