Common Questions & Swaps

  • Can I replace the cherries with another fruit? Yes absolutely. Fresh berries are my favorite in mojitos. So anything from strawberries to raspberries, blackberries or blueberries would be great in this recipe. One suggestion though, opt for ripe sweet berries as opposed to the more acidic ones.
  • Can I make this cocktail alcohol free? Totally, just omit the rum in this recipe.

  • I only have brown rum on hand, can I use that instead of the white rum? I am not a cocktail purist so I would say yes, but there might be other liquors that would work better.

  • How can I make this sugar free? Technically if you keep fruits in the cocktail, it cannot be 100% sugar free however, you can absolutely omit the maple syrup if you want the amount of sugar to me minimal or if you prefer sticking to more natural sugars.

I am a mojito girl; I really am!

The very first mojito I had was when Sam (my boyfriend) and I took a trip to Spain. On our very last day in Barcelona, we treated ourselves to a super fancy meal to celebrate our very first trip together as a couple.

We had read countless review saying that that restaurant’s blackberry mojito was one of the best things on the entire menu. Not being the most experienced cocktails drinkers and connoisseurs, we figured, let’s listen to the reviews and try it out.

Let me tell you, it is one of the best drinks I have drank to this day, even if that was about 8 years ago!

The cocktail was so refreshing, fizzy, sweet, slightly tangy and the blackberries added another level of flavor that we absolutely adored.

SInce that day, mojitos have always been a go-to summer drink in my family. Although more often than not, we stick to the classic version (without any fruit), once in a while, we like to experiment with new variations.

Therefore, when I was offered to work with Superfresh Growers for an Instagram collaboration, I thought why not go down memory lane and create a fruity mojito that reminded me of the very first cocktail I ever had, but that also featured another seasonal fruit: cherries.

Cherries are delightfully sweet, wonderfully fragrant and add a complexity to the traditional mojito that I personally love.

The drink can be ready in minutes! All you have to do is muddle together the cherries, mint, and lime wedges. Top this mixture with white rum, a touch of maple syrup, tons of ice and sparkling water and you’ve got yourself the ultimate summer drink!

Well, on that note, I have already made this cocktail of 6 times in the course of 3 weeks and served it to various people and it was a hit! So I think you will love it too if you give it a try. It is super fresh, bright, wonderfully bubbly, fragrant and super easy to put together.
