Maple Dalgona Coffee (Whipped Coffee)
So, this Friday, I went on YouTube and saw Mary’s Test Kitchen video about how to make Vegan Dalgona Coffee.
I personally had NEVER heard of it before… I then learned that it is a drink that was popularized on TikTok and basically went viral…
As usual, the moment I learned about it, I started seeing it EVERYWHERE… We are talking more YouTube recommendations, Instagram feed & stories & IGTV, Pinterest… everywhere!!
So before I tell you a little bit about my version of this Whipped Coffee, let me explain a little what Dalgona Coffee is in case you were like me and are totally unfamiliar with it.
Dalgona Coffee is a Korean drink. It is a frothy, whipped coffee made out of instant coffee, water and white sugar and that is sitting on top of some milk. The best part about it: it only requires 5 ingredients and can be ready in 5 minutes.
Now, why did I decide to put this on my blog when there are a gazillion recipes online about this drink. The simple answer is: no one tried to make it with maple syrup (anyways I have not found one person who has…)
I try to stay away from white sugar as much as possible and although some people had had successful results with coconut sugar and brown sugar, I was kind of stuck on the idea of making it with maple syrup. Therefore, I looked and looked and looked online and could not find one person who had shared a recipe with maple syrup so, I took matters into my own hands and went ahead and tried it.
I basically followed the basic ratio of 1 part instant coffee, 1 part boiling water, 1 part sweetener. Instead of using white sugar, I went ahead and used maple syrup.
To my surprise, it worked amazingly well! The peaks were stiff and held their own; the sweet flavor was not overwhelming and it looked pretty much the same as other versions I had seen online. Mission accomplished!
This whipped coffee is fluffy, velvety and quite sweet. I personally like to use my reusable straw to mix both the whipped coffee part and the cold milk for the best flavor combination.
On that note, I hope you guys give this drink a try. Honestly, it is so easy to make that if you happen to have instant coffee at home, just take five minutes and try it. It’s fun, looks amazingly good and tastes delicious (especially if you are a coffee lover!).
Well that is it, I hope all of you are staying safe and healthy!
Have a lovely day!
